GCSE grades hit record high

A record number of pupils have been awarded top A and A* GCSE grades.

Nearly one in five entries were awarded the highest grades, a result which will add fuel to the debate over the standards set by the exams.
Critics say students have scored high grades by abandoning harder subjects such as modern languages and sciences. Others believe schools "teach to the test", improving results at the expense of a more rounded education.

...

There were further large falls in entries for French and German after modern languages fell out of the compulsory GCSE syllabus in 2004.
The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) has called for "an education system which encourages real learning and acquiring skills."
ATL General Secretary Mary Bousted said: "Our current curriculum turns many pupils into cynical test-takers rather than the ever-curious learners we need."

isnt this just simply RIDICULOUS? sorry. a better word would have been INCREDULOUS. really. never score high marks, teacher say u never study properly, now get high marks, cher say schools forgo an all rounded education. what is this? many students now are cynical test takers. that i totally AGREE WITH. when a teacher steps into class and says, TEST. everyone shriek with horror and others give a look of pure disgust. the unspoken evil: test.

well, i tink that TLLM indeed is a good approach=) at shows who are those who jus swallow textbooks whole and those who really digest and absorb the info. PM Lee is spot on: teach less, but we still learn more. every year more spent in education can increase your wages by 14%. cool huh? seeing that i have to work till 70 years old, even if i study till 25, i still have 45 years of work to do. oh no....

and the principal of ShiDa School in Beijing once shared with me: studies have shown that it is not the top 3 pupils who do well in school who thrives in the society. It is the top 7-12 students who succeed the best in life.

THIS GOES TO SHOW THAT ACADEMICS ISNT EVERYTHING=) just work hard and u'll reap what u sow.

that's all for now. see ya peeps
